We're celebrating our birthday!
5 years of EXPERIMINTA Science Center. 15 years in which an idea has become a lively place that enriches Frankfurt and the region and shows that science is fun!
How it all began:
It all started with a simple but big question: How can we communicate mathematical and scientific topics in a way that everyone can understand and, above all, experience?
In 2006, a citizens’ initiative was founded, supported by partners such as the Physikalischer Verein, Goethe University, and the City of Frankfurt.
The temporary exhibition “Experimentieren!” (Experiment!), which was presented in 2007, showed how great the interest in a hands-on museum is: 10,000 visitors in just four weeks! In 2008, the ExperMINTa e.V. support association was founded, and on March 1, 2011, the time had finally come: The EXPERIMINTA ScienceCenter opened its doors.
What makes the EXPERIMINTA ScienceCenter so special?
The people behind it! Dedicated volunteers, an enthusiastic team, and countless supporters work day after day to bring science to life. Whether it’s building new exhibits, supervising school classes, or developing new formats.
And this is also reflected in the visitor numbers: from 71,092 guests in 2011 to around 130,000 in recent years. We celebrated a special moment on October 2, 2025, when we welcomed our 1.2 millionth guest to our center.
Diversity that inspires!
The past few years have been marked by growth, creativity, and new offerings. Our exhibition has been continuously expanded: with the “Field and River” area, the EXPERIMINTA film studio, and the new black hole area, we offer even more opportunities to marvel and experiment. The Van de Graaff generator gives you goosebumps, and the energy go-kart has not only become more colorful, but also more educational.
But the EXPERIMINTA Science Center is more than “just” an exhibition. Workshops, crime thriller evenings, science shows, and our flight simulator. We are constantly thinking and expanding our offerings.
And from time to time, we also take the exhibition on the road: With “EXPERIMINTA on Tour,” we were at Dream Night at the zoo, at ACHEMA, at the Museumsuferfest, in front of the old opera house, and even in Saarbrücken for the Deutschlandfest. We bring science to where people are and show that STEM is for everyone.
At the end of this year, we will unfortunately have to leave our current building. But this is not a farewell, but the start of a new chapter! Even though we don’t know where our new home will be yet, one thing is certain: we will continue with the same enthusiasm, creativity, and passion. Because our goal remains the same:
to inspire people for STEM, to arouse curiosity, and to discover the world together.
