“I clearly pursued my goals, no matter what others said or expected of me.”

Did you have a clear idea of what your future would look like when you were a child? How did that evolve? Did your vision come true?

I always knew I wanted a career that involved physics, mechanics, and chemistry. When I started my apprenticeship, I never could have imagined that, after taking a few detours, I would actually end up doing what I love.

Back in my day, there weren’t any role models, so I always went with my gut and did what I enjoyed in school working with my hands in shop class and using my mind to study physics, chemistry, biology, and mechanics.

I first showed an aptitude for mechanics in my earliest childhood, when I was assembling complex models or playing with Lego Technic. Later, I did school internships at various trades shops. I’ve been climbing everything ever since I could walk whether it was furniture, trees, or buildings. Later, I climbed on and into the machines at our farm to understand how they worked.

The exclusivity and niche I serve, I always hear people say, “I can’t do that; I’m afraid of heights!”, as well as the fact that with every new job, I learn a lot of new things from other trades. However, a basic understanding of mechanics, physics, and electronics, along with manual dexterity, is absolutely essential for understanding other trades.

An interest in certain subjects and continuing education, a stubborn streak, and my determination to do exactly what I feel like doing at the moment.

Be brave, be wild, and do what you feel like doing, not what’s expected of you!
