Gender equality is not only a social goal, but also makes economic sense. Governments, businesses and society must work together to promote digital equality."
Did you have a clear idea of what your future would look like when you were a child?
As a child, I wanted to be a presenter. In 1998, I set up my consultancy firm, Genius GmbH, specialising in science communication. At the time, there was no indication that I would later go into politics.
Which person(s) or experience(s) had the greatest influence on your decision about which career to pursue, and why?
I am a doer, not a career politician in the traditional sense. After more than 20 years in the business world, my move into politics was a conscious decision, driven in part by my conviction that business and politics should be more closely intertwined.
Please tell us how your interest in your profession, academic field or trade was sparked.
My background in the natural sciences and my research at TU Darmstadt sparked my interest in digitalisation and its social significance at an early stage.
What do you like most about your current job?
The opportunity to actively drive forward digitalisation in Hesse – for citizens, businesses, academia and research – and thereby create sustainable prospects for the future is a great source of motivation and joy for me.

If you could give young women some advice, what would it be?
Stay bold and curious, seize opportunities, and don’t let clichés and stereotypes hold you back. Girls and young women sometimes have to become role models for others themselves, even if that path is a little more challenging at times.
